Recycle Devices

Here at MacEdge we can recycle Macs, iPhones, and iPads at no charge. We do ask that you make an appointment. But before you do so there are a few things that you might want to take a look at. First of which is does it have any value? Check our trade in page on our website to see if it has some value toward a new device. Lets get a few ideas of how to reuse those devices for other purposes. We will bear in mind that often there maybe an issue with the old device, i.e. a bad battery. But even devices with issues can find a purpose.

Desktops and Laptops

Old computers can have many uses after their productive life. I use an old iMac as a karaoke machine hooked up to a mixer so that when the occasion rises we can sing some Weird Al songs. The kids love Weird Al, especially the Star Wars songs. While many of you won’t have the hardware for karaoke, it just shows the principal of the idea. If the machine can still run certain software, perhaps that is all that it needs to do. Think Netflix, HBO and the like. Apple computers tend to have great displays. Using your old one for media is a great idea whether it be video or music. For those who are a little more techie, you could install a linux based OS on your old Mac; you could turn it into a Chromebook (or not) as well. There is also emulation software for older video games for someone who wants to relive old games or introduce those games to their younger family members. Reusing an old Mac is even better than recycling your Mac. Look here for a more in-depth look.

iPhones and iPads

Older iPhones and iPads can live fruitful years long after being your go-to device. If it isn’t too old you might be able to use your iPad as a second portable display for your Mac, there are discrete requirements for this here. Light duty work might be best for those older iPads, think e-reader or recipes. You could also get a mount and use it as a picture frame, but you will need to get a power cable to the unit for this to be a feasible option. Also you could use it as an alarm clock, or just even a camera. Look here for a more in-depth look.

Reduce Reuse Recycle

Don’t let that old device go to waste, that is never throw any electronics into the trash. Please. Recycle Macs, iPhones, iPads and the like. Happy Earth Day!
